In Paris, Celebrating Karl Lagerfeld

It’s easy to forget that in addition to Chanel, Fendi and his newly reintroduced signature collection, Karl Lagerfeld, for the last four seasons, has also designed a collection for Hogan, a division of the luxury Italian footwear company Tod’s. Mr. Lagerfeld makes multitasking look second nature, so his Hogan collection was the subject of a special celebration this evening in the midst of Paris Fashion Week.

Mr. Lagerfeld first stopped by a gallery on the Left Bank to introduce his designs for Hogan, which include sporty shoes, outerwear and totes that all look very Lagerfeld.

In one vitrine, there was a white puffer jacket with mesh trim; in another was a pair of black sneakers made of quilted navy leather and lined in gold. More than one guest remarked upon the similarity to the iconic Chanel quilted handbag, but some ideas just work regardless of the label.

The big party began much later, when Mr. Lagerfeld and Diego Della Valle, the chief executive of Tod’s, hosted a dinner party at La Maison du Caviar for guests that included the model Saskia de Brauw, Daphne Guinness (wearing tights that looked like prison stripes), Bérénice Marlohe (a French actress recently named the new Bond girl), the editors of the American editions of Harper’s Bazaar and Elle and, in something of a surprise, Katy Perry, with blue hair.

As Mr. Lagerfeld arrived, just before 10 p.m., Ms. Perry was in the back of the restaurant, wearing a gold and white sequined mini-dress and a ring on her finger in the shape of a hypodermic needle, filled with small red stones. The ring was by Markus Molinari, the designer of J. Molinari, and the dress was the subject of a little guessing game among guests seated at a nearby table. Balmain? Pucci? Ungaro?

“Either I’m a Las Vegas showgirl hooker,” Ms. Perry said, “or it’s Balmain.”

It was Balmain.
